Unable to bear with the heat produced due to his penance the devas surendered to Lord Siva to safeguard them. The Lord extinguished the sacred fire by covering the saint's head by hand. As his penance got disturbed Lord lost all his knowledge. Then he regained all knowledge when Lord Muruga preached him the Pranava manthra.
